Which BORNTOSTANDOUT samples to start with
Dirty Rice, by Olivier Cresp, is the house in one vial: a warm basmati rice accord with milk and peony between bergamot, almond and a musky sandalwood base. Fig Porn, by Florian Gallo, sets ripe fig and pear against Turkish rose and cedarwood. Drunk Lovers pours brandy over ginger, pepper and clary sage on an amber and vanilla base. Sugar Addict is the pure gourmand: sugar, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee, then tonka, rum and labdanum.
What to expect on skin
These are not quiet perfumes. With 30 to 40% concentration in the Eau de Parfums, the milky, boozy and sugary accords stay close and warm for a long stretch, so wear each sample on its own day. Indecent Cherry turns sweet cherry and almond tart with sour cherry and strawberry; Drunk Saffron pairs plum and brandy with saffron, leather and coffee. Purple Stain and Black Crème, the Extrait Extrême line, go to 55 to 62% and rest in Onggi pottery.
White porcelain, red letters, outside perfumers
The white bottles with red lettering reinterpret Joseon-era porcelain: white for Korean tradition, red for rebellion. Every perfume credits its perfumer, among them Olivier Cresp, Hamid Merati-Kashani, Honorine Blanc and Quentin Bisch, and the brand says synthetics replace animal-derived materials. Our decants are filled by FragranceGems from the original bottle and labelled by us; they are not official brand samples.
