Amouage has composed perfume in the Sultanate of Oman since 1983, with frankincense, myrrh and resins never far from the formula. Its Eau de Parfums are dosed between 20 and 30% perfume oil and aged for several weeks, so even the fresher ones carry weight on skin and change a lot over a day. That makes the house a textbook case for sampling: a 10 ml decant gives you time to live with the drydown before you choose a bottle.

Four samples that map the house
Reflection Man is the quiet start: rosemary and red pepper berries over neroli, orris and jasmine, with vetiver, patchouli and cedarwood at the end. Guidance shows the softer, modern side, pear and hazelnut with saffron, rose and osmanthus on sandalwood and vanilla. Interlude Man is the dense one, oregano and pimento over frankincense, leather and agarwood smoke. Jubilation XXV Man adds honey, clove, myrrh and oud to labdanum and frankincense.
How Amouage behaves on skin
Expect long arcs rather than a single impression. The brand itself gives Interlude Man 29% perfume oil and Reflection Man 25%, so openings are generous and the resinous bases take their time. Honour Woman shows the women's side, pepper and rhubarb leaves over a chorus of tuberose, gardenia and jasmine, and Interlude Black Iris Man reworks Interlude Man with orris, myrrh and vanilla. Test each sample on a full day before you judge it.

The house was founded in 1983 by the Albusaidi family and points to Oman's past as a trading centre for incense and myrrh. Perfumers in Paris, Grasse, Geneva and New York compose for it; most perfumes are made at its Manufacture in Muscat. Its Essences, such as Outlands, hold 30% perfume oil after six months of infusion. If you want the house at its most wearable, Reflection Man or Guidance. If you want the incense and resin side it is known for, Interlude Man. Guidance 46 is the same idea as Guidance with more added, so sample both if you like the first.

Shipping was 5 days to Finland. Customer service was very good. Happy with the product also. Will shop again.
