Resin and fruit up front
The top pairs labdanum and frankincense with coriander, orange, davana and blackberry. Resin and dry spice arrive together with a dark, slightly tart fruit, so the first minutes already feel warm rather than fresh. On a test day, watch how the orange behaves next to the resins.

Honey at the centre
Honey leads the heart, joined by cinnamon, clove, bay and celery seeds, with rose, orchid and guaiac wood in the background. The sweet and the spicy sides meet here at the same moment. Skin warmth often pushes the honey forward, which is worth noticing over a few wearings.

Nine base notes
Patchouli, opoponax, myrrh, Atlas cedarwood, musk, moss, ambergris, oud wood and immortelle close the pyramid. Together they form one dark, mossy and resinous floor. With the decant you can follow how that base settles once the honey and spice have stepped back.

Apply it to bare skin on the forearm or chest on a cool evening, and give it a few minutes before you judge. Wear it again on a second day over a whole evening out. A dense Eau de Parfum at 23% perfume oil shows more across several wearings than in one quick test.
Who it is for
People who already enjoy resinous, honeyed woods, or who want to learn whether they do, will get the most from it. The house presents it as a men's fragrance, but the pyramid is the better guide: warm, dense and spicy. Anyone who prefers light, fresh scents can settle that question with the decant.

How is the 10 ml decant made?
FragranceGems fills a glass spray vial from the original Amouage bottle and labels it. It does not come from the brand, and Amouage is not involved in the filling.
Is there oud in it?
Oud wood is listed among the nine base notes, next to myrrh, cedarwood and ambergris. It is one part of a resinous whole rather than the lead, so the sample shows how much of it you actually notice.
What perfume oil level does it have?
The house gives 23% perfume oil and eight weeks of ageing for this Eau de Parfum. It is a concentrated, dense composition, which is why a test on skin tells you more than a test on paper.

About Amouage
Amouage has composed perfume in the Sultanate of Oman since 1983, with frankincense, myrrh and resins never far from the formula. Its Eau de Parfums are dosed between 20 and 30% perfume oil and aged for several weeks, so even the fresher ones carry weight on skin and change a lot over a day. That makes the house a textbook case for sampling: a 10 ml decant gives you time to live with the drydown before you choose a bottle.
