Herbs and pepper first
The pyramid begins with bergamot, oregano and pimento berry oil. Together they give a dry, herbal and peppery start where the citrus is more of a spark than a sweetness. Expect the opening to feel slightly rough, and judge it only after it has settled.

Resins in the middle
Amber, frankincense, cistus and opoponax make up the heart. This is the part the house calls calm: balsamic, warm and a little sticky, with the sharp edges of the opening rounded off. If you wear the sample on skin you can follow how it turns.

Leather under smoke
The base is leather and agarwood smoke, with patchouli and sandalwood beneath. It is dark, dry and weighty, and the smoke sits in front of any sweetness. This is the stage that divides opinion, so give it a few separate days.

Spray the sample once or twice on clean skin on a cool evening and leave it alone for a while. Then try it on a second day in colder air, because a dense base like this behaves differently from one season to the next. A warm office will tell you little.

What do I receive?

Is Interlude Man very smoky?
Agarwood smoke and leather carry the base, with resins in the heart, so smoke is a clear part of the picture. Whether it feels dramatic or comforting depends on your skin, which is what a sample shows.
Which season should I test it in?
Cool weather and evenings are the natural setting, because amber, resins and smoke feel heavy in warmth. If you only have warm days, test it anyway but expect it to feel dense.
Can I compare it with other Amouage perfumes?
Only within the house, and only by wearing them on separate days on your own skin. Keep a note of which notes you noticed first and what remained at the end of the evening.

About Amouage
Amouage has composed perfume in the Sultanate of Oman since 1983, with frankincense, myrrh and resins never far from the formula. Its Eau de Parfums are dosed between 20 and 30% perfume oil and aged for several weeks, so even the fresher ones carry weight on skin and change a lot over a day. That makes the house a textbook case for sampling: a 10 ml decant gives you time to live with the drydown before you choose a bottle.
