Quentin Bisch composed Bois Impérial for Essential Parfums as a woody Eau de Parfum whose subject is contrast. Basil and pepper
At the start you find Thai basil and a Nepalese Timut pepper absolute. Expect something green and herbal from the basil and a dry, lively crackle from the pepper, a fresh start that is a little unexpected for a woody perfume.

Vetiver and Georgywood
Haitian vetiver oil and Georgywood form the woody middle, which the brand calls cedar-toned, meaning dry and upright, not sweet. Petalia sits alongside them as a named material, so the heart stays clean and structured instead of soft.

Patchouli twice
The base brings Akigalawood, which the brand traces back to patchouli through upcycling, next to Indonesian patchouli oil and Ambrofix. Patchouli therefore appears in two guises, dark and earthy. Nothing listed points to vanilla or fruit, so the drydown stays dry and woody.

Cooler days give the woods room, though the fresh spice also suits a bright morning. Try it at work one day and at dinner another. Put a little on skin, wait for the basil and pepper to step back, then check whether the patchouli stays enjoyable or takes over. A strong perfume often needs less than you expect.
Who it is for
Made for people who like woods dry and structured and who enjoy patchouli as long as it stays in check. The house calls it unisex. When woods with a lot of vanilla feel too sweet to you, this leaner, spice-edged take may fit better, and a sample lets you find out for yourself.

About Essential Parfums
Essential Parfums was started in Paris in 2018 by Géraldine Archambault after thirty years in the industry, with one rule: a different perfumer for every eau de parfum, working freely and signing the bottle. The brand states 16 to 18% concentration and 82 to 93% ingredients of natural origin, alcohol from beetroot and no added colour. The results are clear and uncluttered, which is why a sample tells you quickly whether a bottle belongs on your shelf.
