First minutes
Candy-like sweetness and ripe berries arrive together, and soft leather is already underneath them. That leather is what keeps the sugar from floating off alone. On skin the start is sweet, a little fruity and a little dark, and for many people it is the easiest part to like.

Apricot, patchouli, resin
Apricot brings a soft, velvety fruit sweetness to the middle. Patchouli adds earthy weight, and the soft resinous accords, which the brand does not break down further, give a warm balsamic glow. This is the stage where the two sides of the brand's description meet.

Musk, woods, flowers
The drydown is musky and woody, with light florals taking some of the edge off the leather and the sugar. Musk keeps the scent close and smooth, the woods hold it up, and what remains is a warm, soft, slightly sweet impression of skin and leather.

Try Loren on an evening when you have somewhere to be, since that is how the brand positions it: parties, dinners, cooler months. Put it on clean skin, keep to a light hand because an Extrait is dense, and check the leather and the sweetness again on a second evening.

People who enjoy gourmand scents but want a darker edge, and who like leather best when it is softer and sweeter than the classic kind. Unisex, and happiest in autumn and winter. If you wear clean, quiet scents, the candy-berry start may feel bolder than you are used to.

What exactly is in the sample?
A 10 ml decant of Loren, filled by FragranceGems from the original bottle into a glass spray vial and labelled by us. It is not a brand sample and the house is not involved.
Is Loren too sweet to wear?
It is sweet, and the brand says it is sweeter and more playful than a traditional leather perfume. Soft leather, patchouli, resin and woods give the sugar a darker backing. A sample shows you which side wins on your skin.
Which concentration is it?
Loren is an Extrait de Parfum, the densest style Al Ambra uses here, so a small amount goes a long way and a decant offers many wearings.
What does the brand say about the resin?
Only that the heart has soft resinous accords. No individual resin is named, so we do not guess one. Expect a warm, balsamic glow that links the apricot to the woods.

About Al Ambra
Al Ambra is a Dubai house, founded in 2016, that develops and produces its perfumes in its own workshop at Dubai Investment Park. Everything we decant from it is an Extrait de Parfum made with warm climates in mind: smooth, oil-rich textures that stay close to the skin rather than filling a room. Three or four samples show the range, from a clean musk to a sugared vanilla, before you commit to a bottle.
