Tart fruit and rose over firm leather
Mind Games J'Adoube borrows its name from a chess call: the announcement that a piece is being straightened, not moved. Nathalie Benareau composed this Extrait de Parfum as a fruity leather: red currant, mandarin and pomegranate lead to a rose heart and then a base of leather, patchouli and Ambrostar. A contrast of tart fruit against firm leather is easiest to judge on skin.

The first impression is juicy and sharp: Rouge Groseille DI, which the brand's text calls red currant, with Madagascar mandarin oil adding a rounder citrus. It is bright and glossy and sets the tone. See whether that sharpness delights or bothers you before the rose appears.

Pomegranate and rose
Bright red pomegranate and Damascene rose make the heart. The pomegranate carries on the juicy tartness, and the rose adds petal softness with a faint velvet warmth. Watch how long the fruit stays in front; the middle is meant to feel more lit than dark.

About Mind Games
Mind Games takes its vocabulary from chess: every perfume is an 'aromatic movement' named after a move or an idea from the game, from French Defense to Double Attack. Creators Alex and Mariana Shalbaf work with the master perfumers of the fragrance house Symrise, and everything we decant is an Extrait de Parfum. The names give no hint of the smell, mango, cherry, chocolate, coffee, so the sensible opening move is a few 10 ml decants.
