A crowd of dark spices
Black pepper, cinnamon, clove, cumin, nutmeg and saffron open the scent, with lemon to lift them. This is the rich, gothic start the brand describes: warm, dry and a little dusty. Cumin and clove make it feel close and intense, so the first minutes are the strongest part of the spice.

Honeyed rose and powdery flowers

What is in the sample?
A 10 ml decant of Moth, filled by FragranceGems from the original bottle into a glass spray vial and labelled by us. It is not a brand sample and Zoologist is not involved.
Is Moth an oud perfume?
Oud is one of ten base notes, beside smoke, guaiac wood, nagarmotha, patchouli and vetiver. It adds depth but does not lead: spices and florals are the first impression.
Which concentration is it?
An Extrait de Parfum, which the brand puts at 20%. That makes it dense and close to the skin, so a small amount is plenty for testing.
When is it best worn?
The notes suggest evenings and cool weather, such as dinners or the theatre. In summer heat the spice and smoke can feel heavy, so a sample helps you check.

About Zoologist
Zoologist names every perfume after an animal and gives each one to a different perfumer, whose name is printed on the box. Victor Wong founded the house in Toronto in 2013, and he is frank about the result: the brand calls its range creative, artistic and strong, not mass-appeal, and does not recommend buying a full bottle without trying a sample first. A 10 ml decant lets you find out whether Bee, Squid or Tyrannosaurus Rex is an animal you can live with.
