Victor Wong founded the house in Toronto in 2013, and he is frank about the result: the brand calls its range creative, artistic and strong, not mass-appeal, and does not recommend buying a full bottle without trying a sample first. A 10 ml decant lets you find out whether Bee, Squid or Tyrannosaurus Rex is an animal you can live with.

About Zoologist
Four animals to start with
Bee, by Cristiano Canali, is a waxy floral honey: orange, ginger syrup and a royal jelly accord over mimosa and heliotrope, on benzoin, sandalwood and vanilla. Squid, by Céline Barel, goes to the deep sea with incense, a black ink accord, a salty accord and opoponax. Tyrannosaurus Rex, by Antonio Gardoni, is smoke and charred wood: fir, black pepper and laurel over champaca and rose, on cade and leather. Moth is dark spice, rose, oud and smoke.
From the meadow to the Antarctic
The gentler animals are pastoral. Hummingbird is nectar and fruit, cherry, plum and lilac over honeysuckle and honey; Cow is sage and apple over a milk note and soft florals; Rabbit is carrot, clover and hay with a biscuit accord; Harvest Mouse joins chamomile and hay absolute to a beer extract. Camel crosses the desert with dates, dried fruits, incense, myrrh and oud, and Penguin opens on an ice accord and juniper berry over saffron and suede.
Extraits, with synthetic animal notes
The bottles are labelled Extrait de Parfum, and the product pages give concentrations of 18 to 25 percent. Despite the theme, the brand states that its perfumes are free of animal products apart from Bee, which contains beeswax, and Hyrax, and that every animal musk in an ingredient list is synthetic. Which Zoologist sample should I try first?
Bee is the friendliest way in, a honeyed floral with vanilla and sandalwood. Hummingbird and Cow are also easy to like. If you want to see how far the house goes, add Squid, salty incense and ink, or Tyrannosaurus Rex, smoke, leather and resins.
Do Zoologist perfumes contain animal ingredients?
According to the brand's FAQ, no, with two exceptions: Bee contains beeswax, and Hyrax is the other. Every animal-style musk named in an ingredient list is synthetic and marked with an asterisk on the brand's pages.
Are Zoologist perfumes hard to wear?
Some are. The brand describes its range as creative, artistic and strong, not mass-appeal. Moth and Tyrannosaurus Rex are smoky and dramatic, while Bee, Rabbit and Harvest Mouse are warm and gourmand. That spread is the reason the house itself suggests samples.

Shipping was 5 days to Finland. Customer service was very good. Happy with the product also. Will shop again. Only thing I hope is that you guys would negotiate better price for GLS shipping to Finland. But I know that is not always possible. And I noticed the prices were lower than the competitors so the steep shipping price was not that big of a deal. Good job all in all.
