Waxy honey, mimosa and orange flower
Bee is Zoologist's picture of a hive in full spring bloom, turned by perfumer Cristiano Canali into a waxy, honeyed floral. Orange and ginger syrup open it, mimosa and orange flower fill the heart, and a soft resinous base of benzoin, vanilla and tonka closes it. At 18 percent, as the brand states, it is a dense Extrait de Parfum, and a honey theme is best tried before you commit to 60 ml.

Orange and syrup
Orange and ginger syrup start it, so the opening is sweet and warm rather than sharp, closer to a spoonful of syrup than to peel. A royal jelly accord sits in the same layer. On the decant, note how soon the sweetness registers, since this is where a honey scent either charms or cloys.

A thick meadow of flowers
Mimosa, heliotrope, orange flower and broom fill the heart. Mimosa and heliotrope are soft, powdery and faintly almond-sweet, orange flower adds clean white brightness, and broom keeps the meadow in view. The effect is warm and thick rather than airy, and you will know within an afternoon if that density suits you.

Resins, vanilla and wood
Warm balsamic resins, benzoin and labdanum, team up with vanilla and tonka to make a sweet base with soft edges. Sandalwood and musks add creaminess. An extrait with such a resinous base should stay close to the skin through the evening, a good reason to wear the decant at a calm pace and watch it settle.

How to test it
Because Bee is sweet and dense, apply a small amount on the chest or wrists and let it settle. Test the decant on a cool evening or a spring day with warmth enough to carry it, and avoid a crowded, hot room for the first try. Come back to it after dinner and note whether the honey feels cosy or too much.
Who it is for
Anyone who likes sweet, floral perfumes with a warm resinous floor, and who is curious about a honey theme that leans waxy rather than sugary. It is unisex and fits easily into dinners, get-togethers and cooler seasons. If sweetness is not your thing, the sample will tell you quickly.

Honey and beeswax are polarising, and Bee leans on them openly. The brand also states that it is not vegan because of its beeswax, a fact some buyers want to know first. What is in the decant?
Bee Extrait de Parfum, filled by FragranceGems from the original 60 ml bottle into a 10 ml glass spray vial and labelled by us. Zoologist does not supply it, and we are not affiliated with the brand.
Is Bee vegan?
No. Per Zoologist, Bee contains beeswax gathered without harming the bees, which means it is not free of animal products. The brand names Hyrax as the only other perfume in its range with that status.
Is it very sweet?
It is sweet and dense, with orange and ginger syrup, a royal jelly accord, honeyed florals and a base of vanilla and tonka. Whether that reads as cosy or cloying is personal, and the decant answers it.
Does it suit warm weather?
It is happiest in cool weather and in the evening. A mild spring day works well, but in real summer heat the honeyed florals can turn heavy, which you can check with the sample.

Zoologist names every perfume after an animal and gives each one to a different perfumer, whose name is printed on the box. Victor Wong founded the house in Toronto in 2013, and he is frank about the result: the brand calls its range creative, artistic and strong, not mass-appeal, and does not recommend buying a full bottle without trying a sample first. A 10 ml decant lets you find out whether Bee, Squid or Tyrannosaurus Rex is an animal you can live with.
