Harvest Mouse is Zoologist's Extrait de Parfum for a countryside at harvest time: golden wheat, autumn wind and small mice collecting seeds as night falls. The named perfumer is Luca Maffei. Chamomile, davana and hay meet a beer extract, and resins and woods warm them. A beer note in a perfume is a good reason to test before choosing 60 ml.

How it unfolds

Bergamot, chamomile, cloves
It starts light and faintly herbal with bergamot, Roman chamomile and orange blossom, cloves tracing a thin line of spice. Think of a warm kitchen window rather than a sweet shop, with the chamomile adding a dry, soft touch to the first few minutes.

Hay and beer
Hay absolute and davana give the warmth of sweet, dried grass, while the CO₂ beer extract contributes a malty, faintly bready depth. Benzoin, opoponax and rose absolute finish the heart off with a soft floral sweetness and a balsamic edge. This is where you learn whether beer in perfume appeals to you.

Fir, moss and warm woods
Fir balsam and oak moss give a green, forest-floor dryness, cedarwood and sandalwood add structure, and Peru balsam with vanilla supply the resinous sweetness the brand calls home-baked. It closes soft, woody and golden, not dark.

How does the beer fit in?
In the brand's pyramid a CO₂ beer extract sits in the heart alongside davana and the hay and rose absolutes. It is one note of many and gives the hay a malty undertone.
Is it sugary?
It leans warm and baked, with vanilla, Peru balsam and benzoin, while the chamomile, davana, hay and fir side keeps it herbal and dry, far from candy-sweet.

Zoologist names every perfume after an animal and gives each one to a different perfumer, whose name is printed on the box. Victor Wong founded the house in Toronto in 2013, and he is frank about the result: the brand calls its range creative, artistic and strong, not mass-appeal, and does not recommend buying a full bottle without trying a sample first. A 10 ml decant lets you find out whether Bee, Squid or Tyrannosaurus Rex is an animal you can live with.
