A glass of something dark
Dark rum leads, with amaretto adding a bittersweet almond edge. Blackcurrant brings tart, slightly jammy fruit and bergamot stops the opening from going syrupy. It feels like a liqueur rather than a sparkling top, and it sets the mood within moments.

From drink to dry wood
The middle brings patchouli blossom, dry amber and sandalwood, and the scent shifts from something you might sip towards something drier and more wooded. The amber is called dry, and it shows: smooth and woody instead of sugary, with patchouli as a soft earthy shade in the background.

Resin and vanilla wood
Labdanum, vanilla wood and Siam benzoin form a resinous, balsamic base, warm like polished old timber. Vanilla comes in by way of wood, which makes the sweetness dry and snug, not creamy. The house calls this part enveloping.

Test the decant on an autumn or winter evening, and begin modestly, since the base is rich and resinous. Wear it again on a milder day, in less, to learn how it behaves when the weather warms. Note whether the rum or the amber stays foremost on your skin through the evening.

Is the rum note strong?
Dark rum is first in the pyramid, softened by amaretto, blackcurrant and bergamot. How strongly it comes across depends on your skin, which a few days of testing will show.
Is the decant from the original bottle?
Yes. We pour 10 ml from the original bottle into a glass spray vial and label it. It is a decant, not a Sospiro sample, and we are not affiliated with the house.
Is Il Padrino sweet?
It has sweetness from amaretto, vanilla wood and benzoin, but dry amber, sandalwood and resin keep it composed instead of sugary. A sample shows whether the balance suits you.
When should I wear it?
Warm, dark and rich, it points to autumn and winter and to evenings. A sample lets you test it by day and in milder weather too, to see whether it ever feels heavy.

About Sospiro
Sospiro is the Italian word for a sigh, and the house, founded in Italy in 2011 and run from Dubai since 2022, writes each perfume like a musical score: top, heart and base as opening, development and resolution. The names follow suit, Vibrato, Basso, Mezzo, Bel Canto. A score only makes sense when it is played, and a perfume when it is worn; with 10 ml decants you can listen to several movements before you choose a bottle.
