Enigma Pour Homme is a Roja Parfums Parfum from 2013, created by Roja Dove. Roja stages it as a stranger sitting in a private members' club, in a haze of cognac and tobacco. A bright single note
The pyramid names only bergamot at the top, and that is the only light moment. It is a brief citrus lift before the heart arrives. In a perfume built on such dark materials, it works like opening a door before the room is revealed.

Flowers with a powdery fizz
Geranium, Rose de Mai, neroli, Jasmin de Grasse and heliotrope make the heart. The brand says heliotrope adds a powdery, cherry-like fizz. This floral section is richer than most men's perfumes, and it leans into the smoky tobacco instead of competing with it.

The base is the longest part: cardamom, ginger, pepper, patchouli, cognac, tobacco, sandalwood, benzoin, vanilla and ambergris. Roja Parfums was founded in Mayfair, London, in 2011 by Roja Dove and calls itself a house of haute perfumery. The formulas are long: a single pyramid can run to twenty or thirty notes, from citrus and lavender through roses and jasmine to tobacco, resins and oud. Most perfumes exist as an Eau de Parfum and as a Parfum. Compositions this layered unfold slowly and differently on each skin, so a 10 ml decant worn over several days is the fair test.
