A crowded first minute
Citrus, peach, ginger, pepper tree and clove all appear at the top, so the first impression is busy. Bergamot and tangerine keep it bright while ginger and clove add heat. It passes quickly, so give it a few minutes before you form an opinion.

Flowers touched by cinnamon
In the heart, rose, tuberose, jasmine and violet meet cinnamon bark, orris and patchouli. Cinnamon gives the flowers warmth rather than competing with them. This is where a long note list can feel generous or overloaded, depending on your nose.

Where the resins gather
Amber, benzoin and opoponax lead the base, with Mysore sandalwood, cashmere wood, vetiver, tonka bean and vanilla around them. The result is sweet, resinous and soft. It is the stage the brand points to when it speaks of evenings and cooler weather.

Put it on clean skin in the late afternoon and check back at the start of the evening, then again the next morning on the same spot. Change nothing else in your routine. Because the scent moves through many stages, one sniff on a paper strip tells you very little.

What is in the 10 ml sample?
A decant of Sacred Flame, filled by FragranceGems from the original bottle into a glass spray vial and labelled by us. It is not a brand sample, and Argos has no part in it.
Is it too sweet for me?
Vanilla, tonka bean and benzoin sit in the base, so there is sweetness, but ginger, clove and cinnamon bark balance it with spice. Wearing it for a few days is the surest way to judge.
Does it change a lot on the skin?
The brand describes it as constantly changing, and the pyramid supports that: it opens on citrus and ginger, moves to flowers with cinnamon and ends in resins and woods. Check it at different moments rather than once.
Can I wear it in spring?
Argos names evenings and cooler weather. On a cool spring evening it should be comfortable; on a hot day the resins may feel heavy, which you can test with the sample.

Argos is a Texan house, founded in Dallas in 2014 by the self-trained perfumer Christian Petrovich, and every one of its perfumes retells a Greek or Roman myth. The style is rich and layered: rum and tobacco, roses and raspberry, citrus over cashmere wood and Mysore sandalwood, blended and macerated in the brand's own laboratory in France. Because each perfume is built as a story with a long base, a 10 ml decant tells you more than any spray on paper.
