Bergamot and lemon
The top has just two notes, bergamot and Sicilian lemon, so the first minutes are crisp and uncomplicated. Nothing sweet follows them, and that clean start decides how you feel about the rest, which is why it is worth noticing on your own skin.

Pepper and woods
The heart brings pink peppercorn together with guaiac wood, cedar wood and cashmere wood. The pepper adds a small spark, the woods build a dry, smooth frame around it. This is the character of the perfume: spicy and woody, not sweet.

Cistus, patchouli, sandalwood
Underneath sit cistus, patchouli, Mysore sandalwood and musk. Cistus and patchouli make the ground earthy and a little resinous, while sandalwood and musk soften it. As the citrus thins out, the scent turns creamy and dry and stays near the skin.

Spray it on clean skin on a mild spring or autumn day, and wear it once during daytime and once in the evening. Do not judge the opening alone: the woods take their time, so let the perfume develop before you decide whether it stays on your list.
Who it is for
A sample suits anyone drawn to dry woods and citrus who is unsure about the pepper and cistus. It is less suited to those who expect vanilla or fruit, because the notes list holds none. Trying it first shows whether the dry finish is what you want.

Argos is a Texan house, founded in Dallas in 2014 by the self-trained perfumer Christian Petrovich, and every one of its perfumes retells a Greek or Roman myth. The style is rich and layered: rum and tobacco, roses and raspberry, citrus over cashmere wood and Mysore sandalwood, blended and macerated in the brand's own laboratory in France. Because each perfume is built as a story with a long base, a 10 ml decant tells you more than any spray on paper.
