Saffron and rum
Saffron and rum open the perfume, with white peach and green apple beside them. The fruit is limited to those two, which keeps the start from turning purely boozy. A decant lets you judge whether dry spice next to a warm spirit appeals to you before the heart arrives.

Four notes in the heart
Patchouli, jasmine, tonka bean and vetiver form the heart. Earthy patchouli and vetiver stand against floral jasmine and sweet tonka. This is the most layered stage of the composition, and the one that skin tends to change the most from person to person.

Tobacco and vanilla
The base lists tobacco, amber, Mysore sandalwood, musk and vanilla. Tobacco brings a dry, leafy warmth, vanilla a soft sweetness, and the sandalwood rounds off both. Wearing the sample across a full evening shows how these five settle together.

Is the decant a sample from Argos?
No, it is our own work. The Eau de Parfum is decanted by FragranceGems from the original bottle into a glass spray vial, labelled by us, and the house plays no part in it. You get 10 ml to test at home.
Does the tobacco stop it being too sweet?
Tobacco and amber sit beside the vanilla in the base, so the sweetness comes with a dry edge. Whether that balance works for you is exactly what a sample can show.
Which season suits it best?
The brand points to celebrations and cooler evenings. In warm weather the heavy, sweet base may feel thick to some wearers, so try the decant on a few days with different temperatures.

About Argos
Argos is a Texan house, founded in Dallas in 2014 by the self-trained perfumer Christian Petrovich, and every one of its perfumes retells a Greek or Roman myth. The style is rich and layered: rum and tobacco, roses and raspberry, citrus over cashmere wood and Mysore sandalwood, blended and macerated in the brand's own laboratory in France. Because each perfume is built as a story with a long base, a 10 ml decant tells you more than any spray on paper.
