34 perfumes by Chanel are listed with us as samples. A guide by the recorded data, with 8 samples shown.
34 perfumes by Chanel are listed with us as samples. Below are 8 of them, described with the facts we hold and nothing else. The order is not a ranking; it is a way to choose where to begin.
The selection
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle is filed as an Eau de Parfum from Chanel; the note list on record reads orange, jasmine, rose, patchouli and vetiver. By family it is filed as amber, floral and woody. Notice how close it stays to the skin and how much of it others pick up.

Chanel Bleu de Chanel
Chanel Bleu de Chanel by Chanel is an Eau de Parfum with these recorded notes: ambery cedar notes, woody and musky notes and New Caledonian sandalwood. By family it is filed as woody, amber, aromatic and musky. Clothes hold a scent differently from skin, which makes a scarf or sleeve a useful second test.

Chanel Allure Homme Sport
From Chanel comes Chanel Allure Homme Sport, an Eau de Toilette. On paper it lists Italian mandarin, cedar, tonka bean and white musk. It is tagged woody, fresh and amber. Pay attention to what is still there by the evening, since that is the part you live with longest.

Chanel Chance Eau Tendre
From Chanel comes Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, an Eau de Parfum. On paper it lists jasmine absolute and rose essence. By family it is filed as floral and fruity. Warm skin and cool skin can bring out different sides, so try both if you can.

Chanel N°5
With Chanel N°5, Chanel has an Eau de Parfum for which bright citrus top notes, aldehydes, May Rose, Jasmine and Vanilla are on record. Its family tags read floral, citrus and gourmand. Give it time to settle before you judge it.

Chanel Allure Homme
Chanel also has Chanel Allure Homme. We have no pyramid on file for it. What reads as sweet on one person can read as dry on another.

Chanel Pour Monsieur
Chanel also has Chanel Pour Monsieur. We have no pyramid on file for it. A paper strip shows the outline, skin shows the detail.

Chanel Chance
No notes are on record for Chanel Chance from Chanel; the sample is the way to find out. Wear it on more than one day before you make up your mind.

Also in this selection: Chanel Coromandel, Chanel Coco, Chanel Allure Homme Sport Cologne, Chanel Gabrielle, Chanel Sycomore, Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme, Chanel Allure Sensuelle, Chanel Platinum Egoiste, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Intense, Chanel Gabrielle Essence.
How to test them
Spray it on the inside of your wrist or elbow and do not rub. Note what you think each time, and read your notes back at the end of the week. Check it after a few minutes, around midday and in the evening. Ask someone you trust what they notice, because your own nose adapts quickly.
Start with 2, 5 or 10 ml and give it a few days, so that the first impression is not the only one. Keep short notes per perfume; after a week the choice usually makes itself. The small size, 2, 5 or 10 ml, is meant for exactly that: a few honest wearings before anything bigger.

Questions
How were these samples chosen?
By the tags and note lists on record for each perfume. Nothing was added from memory, the order is not a ranking, and perfumes without recorded notes are described without notes.
How many samples should I try at once?
Two or three is a good number. Wear one per day, on clean skin, and write down what you notice in the morning and in the evening before you move to the next.
What is a decant?
Perfume moved from the original bottle into a smaller vial. Ours are filled by FragranceGems into glass spray vials and labelled by us, so you can wear a perfume before you decide on a bottle.
