Velixir Athena is an Eau de Parfum from FragranceGems' own house Velixir. A fruity start of Lychee, Grapefruit and Rhubarb leads into Bulgarian Rose, Freesia and Vanilla, and the base joins Akigalawood, Musk, Orris Root and Vetiver. Rose, orris and vetiver ask to be tried on skin, and a 10 ml decant allows exactly that.

Lychee against rhubarb
Lychee, Grapefruit and Rhubarb open the perfume. Lychee is sweet and exotic, rhubarb sour and lively, grapefruit bitter-bright. That contrast keeps the start from being merely sweet. See which of the three leads on your skin in the first minutes.

Bulgarian rose, freesia and vanilla
The heart is Bulgarian Rose, Freesia and Vanilla. Rose carries the middle, freesia adds a fresh floral shade and vanilla a soft, sweet cushion. A rose perfume can feel classic or modern depending on the wearer, so this is where your own reaction matters most.

Orris, vetiver and Akigalawood
The base lists Akigalawood, Musk, Orris Root and Vetiver. Orris root gives a powdery elegance, vetiver an earthy dryness and Akigalawood a peppery wood, with musk smoothing the edges. The finish is where rose perfumes differ most from one another.

How to test it
Try it on a cooler day or in the evening, since the rose and the powdery orris suit them. Apply it to the wrists and smell it at the start, once the fruit has gone, and again at the end of the day. A second day will show whether the rose or the vetiver leads.
Who it is for
Athena is for people who like a fruity-rose perfume with a dry, earthy base and a powdery touch, and who do not want a purely sweet floral. FragranceGems tags it for daily, evening and work. If rose is not your favourite note, a sample tells you before a bottle does.

Is Athena a very sweet perfume?
The pyramid has lychee and vanilla, so there is sweetness, but rhubarb, grapefruit, vetiver and orris balance it. How sweet it feels depends on your skin and the amount you apply.
What does orris root add?
Orris root is a powdery, slightly earthy ingredient. In this base it sits next to vetiver and musk and gives a soft, dry elegance. Notice whether you enjoy that powder or find it dusty.
Is it better for evenings?
FragranceGems tags it for daily, evening and work, so it is flexible. Cooler weather suits the rose and powder particularly well. Try it at different times with the decant to see where it fits your day.

About Velixir
Velixir is a young perfume house from Indonesia, founded in 2025, that says it wants to "redefine accessible luxury in modern perfumery" and bring Indonesian perfumery to a global stage. The perfumes are Eau de Parfum and carry names from mythology: Icarus, Asteria, Aphrodite, Persephone, Poseidon. Because the range is wide and the names say little about the scent, a few samples side by side are the quickest way in.
