Star anise and freesia
The opening is quiet and slightly unexpected. Badiane gives a faint, sweet spice and freesia a clean, light floral. Notice, when you wear the decant, how little happens here: this is a gentle start by design, and it fits the idea of the ordinary.

A soft middle
Cashmere flower and sandalwood make a creamy, cushioned centre. Nothing here is sharp or sparkling, so the texture is the point, and texture is exactly what a short sniff cannot judge. Wear it for an afternoon and see if it feels like a comfort or like too little.

Musks and tonka bean close the scent: warm, lightly sweet, with the almond and vanilla comfort of tonka. The brand likens the whole to a soft blanket on a rainy day, and this is the part that does it. It is mild but not thin.

What is badiane?
The French name for star anise, the first note in the pyramid. It adds a gentle, sweet spice at the very start, which is worth noticing on your own skin.
Which season should I test it in?
Autumn or winter first, when softness and warmth are welcome. A cool spring day works too. In strong heat its cosy character may feel out of place, and the decant lets you see that for yourself.

Juliette Has a Gun imagines Shakespeare's Juliet in the twenty-first century, armed, with perfume as her weapon. Romano Ricci created the Paris house and steers it as artistic director, and he writes his formulas short: often one note per level, in one case a single ingredient from top to base. Perfumes this minimal behave differently on every skin, so a 10 ml decant worn for a few days tells you more than any description.
