Violet leaf, cool and green
The top consists of violet leaves alone, which gives a cool, green, slightly watery line, lighter than any violet flower would be. It is brief and clear, and it leans toward the iris instead of adding sweetness of its own.

Iris and rose
The heart pairs iris with rose. The iris is powdery and smooth, with a cool, faintly earthy elegance, and the rose rounds it softly without making a bouquet. Texture is the point here: fine, even and dry, with nothing rough in it.

Sandalwood, musks, cedar

Why is it called Porcelana?
The house takes its cue from the craft of French porcelain, with its fine, patient handwork. In the perfume that shows up as a refined, even texture and a tidy ending.
Is the iris powdery or earthy?
Both qualities appear. The brand's wording points to a powdery, noble iris with a slightly earthy elegance, softened by rose and creamy sandalwood.

About Ex Nihilo
Ex Nihilo was founded in Paris in 2013 by Sylvie Loday, Olivier Royère and Benoît Verdier, three people from the luxury world who hand emerging perfumers carte blanche and, the brand says, the finest raw materials without cost constraints. The perfumes sit in four universes, floral, ambery, woody and citrus, and lean on modern materials such as Ambrofix and Akigalawood. Their airy, abstract style is easy to misjudge on paper; a 10 ml decant on skin is the fairer test.
