Desert bloom, sandalwood and quiet musk
Byredo Mojave Ghost is an Eau de Parfum from Sweden, released in 2014 and described by the house as an ode to the Mojave Desert and the few flowers that bloom there. Ambrette and naseberry open it, magnolia, sandalwood and violet form the heart, and cedarwood, musks and vetiver end it. It is soft and restrained, so judging it from a blotter alone is hard.

Ambrette and naseberry
The opening is only ambrette and naseberry. There is no loud citrus burst, so the perfume begins quietly and gently, and you notice it more on skin than in the air around you. It is a short stage that leads quickly into the heart.

The heart carries the flower idea: magnolia and sandalwood, which Byredo calls rare, with violet adding a powdery quality. The result is a floral with a woody backbone rather than a bouquet. This is the part where skin chemistry can shift the balance most.

Is it a floral perfume?

Byredo was founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Ben Gorham and turns memories and emotions into scent: a dance in Africa, a desert flower, a library, a nomadic life. The Eau de Parfums are built on a small library of raw materials, ambrette, sandalwood, violet, vetiver, and most of them stay transparent and close to the skin. That restraint is exactly why a sample helps: on paper they can seem simple, on skin they settle into something personal.
