It starts with bergamot, lemon, juniper and pepper, moves through incense, orris and pine needle, and settles on amber, sandalwood and vanilla. Fresh air first
Bergamot, lemon and juniper berries give the start an open, clean sharpness, and pepper adds a dry spark. There is little sweetness here. The first minutes are about air and open ground, in keeping with the nomadic image the brand has in mind.

Smoke and pine
In the heart, incense, orris and pine needle join. The brand links them to campfire nights under the stars, and the effect is smoky and woody, with orris as a quieter third voice. This is the most atmospheric stage and the one that divides opinion.

Warm, rounded base
Once the smoke thins, amber, sandalwood and vanilla take over. The base is warm and soft, with vanilla supplying a gentle sweetness after all that dryness. It is the stage that stays on skin longest, so it deserves a proper look.

How to test it
Wear Gypsy Water on a cool, bright day, ideally outdoors for part of it. Put it on the chest or the inner elbows so the incense and amber warm slowly, and check back after a while. Try it once in spring weather and once on a colder day to see which suits it.
Who it is for
People who like smoky, woody scents that end warm, and who prefer a relaxed, unfussy style. Byredo describes it as genderless, with medium intensity. It fits weekends, travel and evenings with friends better than a strict dress code.

Byredo was founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Ben Gorham and turns memories and emotions into scent: a dance in Africa, a desert flower, a library, a nomadic life. The Eau de Parfums are built on a small library of raw materials, ambrette, sandalwood, violet, vetiver, and most of them stay transparent and close to the skin. That restraint is exactly why a sample helps: on paper they can seem simple, on skin they settle into something personal.

Timely info when item was back in stock. Some confusion with info about shipment updates on gls app but what is important: perfume came in perfect condition!

Shipping was 5 days to Finland. Customer service was very good. Happy with the product also. Will shop again.
