Sage in the citrus
Bergamot and grapefruit open the perfume, and sage sits between them, adding a dry, green, herbal edge to the bright fruit. Expect a clean, slightly bitter start rather than a sugary one, with the herbs showing before the fruit has fully warmed on your skin.

A cool, spiced middle
Lavender, cardamom and juniper carry the heart. Juniper brings a cold, gin-like freshness, cardamom adds a warm spice, and lavender keeps the whole thing aromatic. This is where the fresh side and the warm side of the perfume meet, and it is worth smelling the skin again at this point.

Caramel on a dry base
The base pairs oriental notes with caramel and vetiver. The caramel adds a soft sweetness, while the vetiver stays earthy and dry, so the finish need not turn syrupy. Give it a little time on skin to see where the balance lands for you.

How to test it
Spray it once on a clean forearm in the morning, when the citrus and sage are easiest to follow, and smell the skin again as the day moves on. Then wear it on a second day for an evening plan, when the caramel base may speak louder. Judge the finish on skin, not on paper.
Who it is for
A good fit if you like citrus with an herbal edge and can accept a sweet base underneath. If you usually avoid gourmand notes, the sample tells you whether caramel this dry still bothers you. FragranceGems tags it for men and for summer and winter alike.

Will the caramel make it too sweet?
FragranceGems describes the caramel as subtle and held in check by dry vetiver. Whether that suits you is personal, which is exactly what a few test days will show.
What is in the vial?
A 10 ml glass spray vial that FragranceGems fills from the original Afnan bottle. We put the label on it ourselves, so you know which perfume you are holding.
Is it only for one season?
FragranceGems lists it for summer and winter. Wear the sample on a warm day and a cool one and compare how the grapefruit and the caramel behave.

About Afnan
Afnan Perfumes was founded in 2007 in the United Arab Emirates by Imran Fazlani, who still chairs the house, and says it is present in more than 120 countries. Its collections carry names such as Supremacy, Turathi, Lynked and 9AM/9PM, and its motto is that fragrance "should be expressive, memorable, and unafraid". Two Afnan Eau de Parfum are here as samples, one from the Supremacy collection and one from Lynked.
