Basil, pepper and vetiver
The opening is green and dry rather than fruity. Basil brings a cool herbal sharpness, black pepper adds a dusty heat, and vetiver gives the first minutes an earthy floor. Spray it once and give it a short wait: the herbs tend to show first and the pepper settles in a little later.

Timur pepper meets grapefruit
FragranceGems describes the heart as built on Timur, a Sichuan-type pepper, with grapefruit beside it. The Timur gives an almost tingling sensation in that description, the grapefruit a bitter, clean edge. Together they should make the middle feel bright and slightly electric before the base arrives.

A patchouli finish
The recorded base is patchouli alone, described as a warm, woody and steady close. A single-note base is easy to read on skin: if you like patchouli the drydown should feel familiar, and if you do not, the sample tells you soon. Check it again in the evening, when the base has had time to open.

How to test it
Try it on clean skin on a cool morning, one spray on the forearm and one on the chest, so you can compare both spots. Smell the wrist at the start and again after you have forgotten about it. Wear it on a second day for the office and on a third for an evening out, and see which setting suits it.
Who it is for
A fit if you like peppery, herbal openings and a patchouli close, and prefer a perfume that feels dry rather than sweet. FragranceGems tags it for men and for autumn and winter, with daily, work and special occasions. If patchouli has not worked for you before, the decant answers that without a full bottle.

What does the Timur pepper add?
FragranceGems calls it almost tingling and says it blends into the grapefruit. How strong that feels depends on your skin, and a few test days will show whether it suits you.
What exactly is in the vial?
A glass spray vial with 10 ml of Hersh Lahab, filled by FragranceGems from the original bottle. The label comes from us, so you know which perfume you are holding.
Is it only for cold weather?
FragranceGems lists it for autumn and winter, but you can test it in any weather. Wear it on a cool day and a mild one and see how the pepper and grapefruit behave in each.

About Alezz Oud
Alezz Oud is an Arabian perfume label whose Hersh perfumes FragranceGems sells as samples: Alezz Oud Hersh 2 and Alezz Oud Hersh Lahab, both Eau de Parfum. The brand's own site gave us nothing to quote, so this page keeps to FragranceGems' product data. The two perfumes share a name and little else, one a citrus and incense scent with oud in the base, the other a green, peppery vetiver. Two samples, two days, and you know which Hersh is yours.
