Pineapple and bergamot over oakmoss
Hacivat takes its name from a figure in Turkish shadow theatre, and Nishane presents this Extrait de Parfum as an homage to elegance, kindness and love of art. Pineapple and bergamot lead a chypre with woody notes behind it. Fruit-led chypres can feel playful or austere depending on the wearer, so a 10 ml decant is a sensible first meeting.

Pineapple, bergamot, grapefruit
Pineapple and bergamot lead, and grapefruit gives a dry, mildly bitter rim. The fruit is juicy yet pulled toward crisp by the citrus, which is the bright, sparkling quality the brand describes. Notice how long that sparkle lasts on you before the woods arrive.

Jasmine, patchouli, cedarwood
In the heart, jasmine lends a gentle floral warmth, patchouli some earthy shadow and cedarwood a clean, dry line. The fruit steps back, and the chypre structure becomes easier to follow. Here you see how serious the perfume feels beyond its juicy start.

Oakmoss and dry wood
Clearwood, oakmoss and dry timberwood make up the base. Oakmoss supplies the damp green of a forest floor which is the backbone of a chypre, while the two woods keep the ending dry and airy. It finishes woody and mossy rather than sweet.

How to test it
Try it in daytime and in mild to warm weather, where the citrus-led opening is at home, and once more on a cooler day to meet the woods. It is an extrait, so begin with a small amount on chest or wrists and let the pineapple settle before you judge the moss. Compare it at a desk and at a dinner table if you can.

The brand
About Nishane
Nishane was founded in Istanbul in 2012 by Mert Güzel and Murat Katran, and the name means mark, sign or symbol. Almost everything the house makes is an Extrait de Parfum, and each perfume carries a story: a shadow-theatre character, a line by Rumi, an Anatolian folk song. Several of the favourites now also exist in a reworked X version. Stories and versions are easier to choose between on skin, which is what a few 10 ml decants are for.
