A chorus of vanillas
The opening is almost all vanilla, with Bourbon, Madagascar, Tahitian and Mohea each lending its own shade, plus tonka bean for warmth. Rum is present from the first minute, not saved for later. The layering stops the opening from reading flat or purely sugary.

Caramel and white flowers
In the heart, island vanilla continues, with caramel adding depth to the sweetness and white flowers supplying a pale, soft counterpoint. Patchouli appears here for the first time and starts to outline the sweetness, so it is no longer a single note. Check how the flowers feel on your skin.

Cask, wood and a black pod
Barrel-aged rum returns in the base, now next to agarwood, patchouli from Indonesia and a black vanilla pod. According to the brand it is the earthy patchouli that gives the whole structure and balance. It is the brand's spelling of rum. Barrel-aged rum opens the perfume and returns in the base as barricaded rhum, which is the Italian idea of rum aged in a barrel.

Yes. We fill a 10 ml glass spray vial from the original bottle and label it. It is a decant, not a Lorenzo Pazzaglia sample, and we are not affiliated with the brand.
How sweet is Van Py Rhum?
Very vanilla-led, but caramel, white flowers and above all Indonesian patchouli and oud give it some earthy and dark contrast. A sample shows if the sweetness suits you.

About Lorenzo Pazzaglia
Lorenzo Pazzaglia grew up around his family's restaurant in the hills of the Marche, and the brand tells his story as that of a chef, a nose and a dreamer. You notice the kitchen in the perfumes: rum over vanilla pods, mango with coconut milk, red wine and cherry, salt and seaweed. The house, founded in 2021, makes Extrait de Parfum only. Formulas this dense and this literal are worth wearing as a 10 ml decant before you choose a bottle.
