Poka began in a kitchen: Pernoire worked with a confectioner and took the aroma, texture and balance of the sweet as a template, and the name comes from popcorn and caramel. Andreas Wilhelm composed this 2024 Extrait de Parfum for the Odus line, at 30 percent. With a perfume this edible, a sample shows quickly whether it charms or cloys.

Caramel popcorn, apple pie
Caramel popcorn comes first, with apple pie and cinnamon close behind. The sweetness is cooked and familiar, nearer to a warm kitchen than a perfume counter, and cinnamon adds a dry spiced edge so that the sugar does not sit flat.

Hazelnut, apricot, resin
Roasted hazelnut and dried apricot take over the middle once the first sweetness has settled. Hazelnut gives a toasted, slightly dry sweetness, apricot a soft, concentrated fruit, and labdanum a resinous, ambery warmth that adds depth to the whole stretch.

Vanilla and cedarwood
The base holds vanilla, musk, tonka bean and cedarwood. Vanilla and tonka keep the sweetness round and soft, musk smooths the edges, and cedarwood adds a dry wooden spine that keeps the dessert idea from turning syrupy or cloying.

How to test it
Poka is warm and dense, so a light touch on the chest or the pulse points is a fair start. Cold evenings are where the sweetness feels like comfort rather than heat. Wear it once on such an evening and once in milder weather, and pay attention to whether the cinnamon and cedarwood keep it grown-up.

People who already enjoy gourmand perfumes, or want to try a sweet scent with a clear idea behind it: baked, nutty, caramelised. It suits a relaxed weekend as well as an evening out. If you prefer fresh, airy or dry scents, it will feel too sweet.

Who is Poka made by?
Pernoire, an independent Swiss house, with perfumer Andreas Wilhelm. The brand says every composition is developed by its two founders together with him.
What does Odus mean here?
Odus is the name of the line Poka belongs to, made at 30 percent extrait concentration, which the brand treats as the stronger of its two lines.
Is it very sweet?
Yes, by design: caramel popcorn, apple pie, vanilla and tonka. Cinnamon, labdanum and cedarwood add some dryness and structure, so a sample shows whether that balance works for you.

About Pernoire
Pernoire is a young Swiss house: two childhood friends, Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino, founded it in 2020 and develop every composition with the perfumer Andreas Wilhelm. Each perfume is an Extrait de Parfum, at 25% in the Anima line or 30% in Odus, and each is named after an idea or its key notes: Anelo for pineapple and pomelo, Poka for popcorn and caramel. At these concentrations a few wearings from a 10 ml decant tell you whether a perfume is yours.
