Fruit, leather and oud over caramel
Rasasi Hawas Lava Gold is an Eau de Parfum that opens with grapefruit, pineapple, apple and lemon, darkens through leather, oud, saffron and raspberry, and ends on patchouli, amber, moss and caramel. Bright fruit over a dark core makes for a big contrast, so a 10 ml decant is the practical test before the 100 ml bottle.

A sparkling fruit burst
Grapefruit, pineapple, apple and lemon open the perfume with what FragranceGems calls an immediate, fruity freshness and a modern, energetic tone. It is the lightest stage by far, so enjoy it for what it is and expect it to change quickly.

Leather, oud, saffron, raspberry
In the heart the scent turns darker and stronger. Leather and oud bring the rugged side, saffron adds a spiced shimmer, and sweet raspberry sits against them. FragranceGems says this contrast gives the perfume an unusual depth. Whether that appeals depends on how you feel about oud and leather.

The base of patchouli, amber, moss and caramel is warm, nearly edible in its sweetness, balanced by the earthy character of moss and patchouli. Smell it later in the evening and decide whether you find the caramel comforting or sugary.

Is Hawas Lava Gold sweet?
The top is fruity and the base holds caramel and amber, so there is sweetness at both ends. Leather, oud and moss in between keep it from being plain sugar, and your skin decides the balance.
Does the oud dominate?
Oud is one of four heart notes, next to leather, saffron and raspberry. FragranceGems calls the heart darker and stronger, so test it for how present the oud feels on you.
Is it meant for the cold months?
FragranceGems lists autumn and winter. A trial on a mild evening shows whether the fruit makes it workable earlier in the year.

FragranceGems describes it as one of the city's most renowned houses and carries, among others, the Hawas series as samples: Eau de Parfum that share a name and a fresh, masculine idea but differ in temperature, from the icy Hawas Ice to the amber-heavy Hawas Highness. A sample set is the only sensible way to tell the Hawas versions apart.
