A formal entrance
Tuberose opens creamy and full-bodied, with ylang-ylang beside it adding a honeyed, slightly fruity warmth. Only two notes sit on top, which gives the start a composed, formal feel: a bouquet that enters a room slowly rather than rushing.

Resin, leather, tea
The modern touch arrives in the middle. Benzoin and styrax bring balsamic, resinous warmth, leather a smooth dark line, and tea cools the heart with a dry, slightly bitter note. The white flowers remain, but they stop being merely pretty.

Honey, moss, wood
Honey and amber give the base sweetness with weight, while vetiver, moss and sandalwood supply earthy, woody dryness. It ends warm and sophisticated rather than sugary. As an extrait it stays close to the skin and fades gradually.

Sarah Baker Perfumes is run from a studio in East London by two artists, Sarah Baker and Andy Hsu, and it works the way an art project would: every perfume is a collaboration with a different independent perfumer, credited on the bottle, and each is cast as a character in an ongoing fantasy world with its own mini screenplay. Characters this vivid, a vengeful peach, a mermaid's tidepool, a gilded oud, are better met in person. A 10 ml decant is the introduction.
