Lemon in full sun
An intense lemon leads, with wild chamomile oil and osmanthus around it. The lemon is bright and sour, the chamomile adds dry, herbal sweetness, and the osmanthus a soft, fruity-floral warmth. On skin, watch how the glare softens within a few minutes as the flowers come forward.

Iris, amber, a dusty ground
Iris roots, amber and earthy notes make the middle. The iris brings a cool, dry, powdery texture, amber golden warmth, and the earthy notes a dusty ground, as if sand lay underfoot. Powdery scents are a matter of taste, and the decant tells you which side you stand on.

Leather and vanilla
The scent ends on iris butter, Russian leather and Madagascan vanilla. The iris butter is smooth, waxy and powdery, the leather a deep, dry note, and the vanilla softens both into a warm finish. Wear it for a full evening to see how the leather and vanilla share the last stage.

What is in the decant?
Soleil de Jeddah Eau de Parfum, filled by FragranceGems from the original 50 ml bottle into a 10 ml glass spray vial and labelled by us. Stéphane Humbert Lucas does not supply it, and we are not affiliated with the house.
Why is it sometimes called L'Original?
The house's shop adds L'Original to tell this version apart from its flankers, Mango Kiss and Afterglow. On the bottle and as the perfume name it is simply Soleil de Jeddah, and this decant is that original.
Is it a lemon perfume?
Only at the start. Lemon, chamomile oil and osmanthus open it, but the character comes from iris, amber, Russian leather and Madagascan vanilla, which are warm, dry and powdery rather than citrusy.
Can I test it in summer?
Yes, with a light hand. The lemon brings brightness, but the base is warm, so a modest application is wise in heat. The decant lets you try both a hot day and a cooler evening.

Stéphane Humbert Lucas is a painter and poet before he is a perfumer, a synesthete who says he sees his fragrances in colours. His Paris house makes, in its own words, no marketing concessions: the first collection, 777, launched in 2012 and draws on his travels in the Middle East, and the Serpent collection retells snake legends from Mexico to China. Perfumes built on colour and legend need to be worn to be understood, and a 10 ml decant gives you several evenings to do so.
