A sweet, bright start
Orange blossom and apricot open sweet and bright, with pink pepper adding a dry spark at once. On skin it reads as soft fruit and flower with a hint of heat, as if the match were already struck. Test the decant early to see whether that sweetness suits you.

The flowers catch fire
In the heart, lily of the valley and tuberose provide creamy, slightly cool white flowers. Ginger heats them from within, and the motor-oil note sets a dark, industrial contrast. This is the odd, memorable part of the scent, and a decant lets you decide whether it fascinates you or puts you off.

Labdanum, mezcal, embers
Underneath come labdanum, mezcal and embers, giving resinous smoke and the dry bite of a strong spirit. The flowers stay inside the smoke rather than vanishing. As an Extrait it is dense and charred, amber-warm, and you will learn on the second or third day whether that suits your skin.

How to test it
Test it in the evening or in cooler weather, when smoke and resin feel natural, and apply it sparingly. Give the flowers a moment before the smoke comes forward. Wear the decant once at dinner and once on a quiet night in, and write down in a word or two how the motor-oil note feels to you, since that is the surprise.
Who it is for
Suited to white-floral lovers who find most of them too soft, to fans of smoke and resin, and to anyone curious about mezcal and motor oil in a perfume. If you want a clean, gentle floral, the sample will confirm quickly that this is too dark for you.

Where does the desert-highway feel come from?

Sarah Baker Perfumes is run from a studio in East London by two artists, Sarah Baker and Andy Hsu, and it works the way an art project would: every perfume is a collaboration with a different independent perfumer, credited on the bottle, and each is cast as a character in an ongoing fantasy world with its own mini screenplay. Characters this vivid, a vengeful peach, a mermaid's tidepool, a gilded oud, are better met in person. A 10 ml decant is the introduction.

Shipping was 5 days to Finland. Customer service was very good. Happy with the product also. Will shop again.
