A pub and a hillside
The opening mixes peaty whisky with bread, hops and heather. It is an unusual combination that suggests a bar and a moor at the same time: malty, a little bitter and herbal, with smoke in the background. Expect a savoury start rather than a sweet one.

Cedar, tobacco, worn leather
The heart is cedar, tobacco and leather, which the brand calls worn. These are dry, warm materials, and they give the perfume a lived-in, comfortable feel. After the odd opening, this section is more familiar and settles the composition.

Sarah Baker Perfumes is run from a studio in East London by two artists, Sarah Baker and Andy Hsu, and it works the way an art project would: every perfume is a collaboration with a different independent perfumer, credited on the bottle, and each is cast as a character in an ongoing fantasy world with its own mini screenplay. Characters this vivid, a vengeful peach, a mermaid's tidepool, a gilded oud, are better met in person. A 10 ml decant is the introduction.
