Frederic Malle L'Eau d'Hiver is Jean-Claude Ellena's minimalist 'warm water' from 2003, an Eau de Toilette that borrows the clarity of an eau de Cologne and warms the skin like a light scarf. Bergamot alone
Bergamot is the only top note, and the brand pairs it with hedione for an open, airy start. That is the lucid minimalism of an eau de Cologne the brand places at the beginning. Because there is so little to hear, your first minutes on skin matter.

A powdery cloud
After the opening the brand describes a powdery cloud of heliotrope and hawthorn, soft like mimosa, with hints of sweet almond and honey. This is where the warmth arrives. Check whether the powder feels comforting or too soft for your taste.

Is the decant from Frederic Malle?
The vial is our work, not the house's. We transfer the Eau de Toilette from the original bottle into a 10 ml glass spray vial and label it ourselves, and Frederic Malle takes no part.
Is it only for winter?
The name points to winter and the soft warmth suits cold weather, but the cologne-like clarity keeps it light enough for mild days as well. A few test days in different weather will tell you.
What does 'warm water' mean?
It is the brand's own phrase for the idea: the clarity of an eau de Cologne that also warms the skin, like a light scarf. It describes an effect, not a single note.

About Frederic Malle
Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle opened in Paris in 2000 with nine perfumes and one idea: the perfumer is the author, so the name goes on the bottle like on a book. Dominique Ropion, Maurice Roucel, Olivia Giacobetti and Jean-Claude Ellena work here with complete freedom, time and materials. The results are generous, often extreme in one direction, a rose pushed to its limit, a tuberose in very high dose, which is exactly why a 10 ml decant beats a quick sniff in a boutique.
