A four-citrus opening
Lime, bergamot, mandarin orange and tropical fruits start Empire. That puts the citrus family in front, with a tropical edge from the fruits. Because all four seasons are listed, the first minutes are worth judging both on a warm day and a cold one, since air temperature changes citrus the most.

Orange, ginger and coconut water
The heart brings Sicilian orange, ginger, jasmine and coconut water. A second orange, a spice and a light coconut note sit around a white flower. Coconut water is a gentler idea than coconut cream, and this is the stretch to watch if you usually avoid coconut.

Patchouli, white musk and tonka
Patchouli, white musk and tonka bean make up the base. Patchouli gives the earth, white musk the clean cushion and tonka a soft sweetness. The tags call the whole perfume woody, so this is where that label comes from, and it is the part to set against the bright start.

How to test it
Wear one spray on bare skin and note the lime and bergamot first. Come back after a while for the ginger and coconut water, then at the end of the day for the patchouli and musk. Empire is tagged for daily, evening and sport use, so try it in at least two of those settings.
