Floral perfume samples: where to start
Floral perfumes can be airy, creamy, powdery or heady. Eight floral samples sorted from light and green to rich white flowers, with recorded notes.
Floral perfume samples are easiest to approach by weight. Flowers in perfume range from airy and green, such as tulip, freesia and lily of the valley, through creamy and powdery roses and peonies, to heady white flowers such as tuberose and gardenia. Floral is a very large family, and the wrong flower at the wrong weight is the usual reason people say they dislike it. This guide sorts eight by that weight, using the notes exactly as recorded.
Airy and green
Byredo La Tulipe is the lightest in the group. The top is cyclamen, freesia and rhubarb, the heart tulip, and the base blonde woods and vetiver. It is an Eau de Parfum tagged light, for spring, summer, daily wear and work.

Matière Première Neroli Oranger is a citrus-floral with one list: orange blossom absolute (tunisia), neroli oil (tunisia), bergamot oil (italy), ylang-ylang oil (comoros) and floral musks. It is tagged light for spring and summer, and for daily wear, work and special occasions.

Diptyque Eau Rose is a rose in Eau de Toilette form: damascena rose, centifolia rose, litchi accord and ambroxan. Litchi and ambroxan keep the rose bright and clean, and it is tagged light.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian 724 uses jasmine, sweet pea and mock orange. The top is bergamot and aldehydes, the heart grandiflorum jasmine absolute, sweet pea and mock orange, and the base sandalwood and white musk. It is tagged moderate, for spring and summer.

Classic bouquets
Argos Pallas Athene is filed for women. The top reads bergamot, grapefruit, pink peppercorn and red berry, the heart peony, hyacinth, violet and rose petals, and the base iris, Mysore sandalwood, amber, vetiver, patchouli and vanilla. Peony, hyacinth, violet and rose make a full bouquet, tagged moderate.

Tiziana Terenzi Cassiopea is a fresher bouquet: passion fruit, lemon, cassis and fern on top, carnation, lily of the valley and rosa tea in the heart, and sandalwood, fava tonka and musk below. Carnation and lily of the valley with rosa tea make a green, slightly spicy floral.

Heady white flowers
Nishane Hundred Silent Ways is the creamy white floral. The top is tuberose, mandarin and peach, the heart white jasmine, gardenia and orris, and the base vanilla, sandalwood and vetiver. It is an Extrait tagged strong, for autumn and winter.

Maison Crivelli Tubéreuse Astrale keeps tuberose near the front of a short list: cinnamon bark essential oil, tuberose absolute, osmanthus absolute, carrot seeds essential oil, cistus absolute, leather accord and musks. Leather and cinnamon bark give it a dark edge, and it is tagged strong.

What the eight share
The intensity tags make the weight visible: three samples are light, three moderate and two strong, and the order in the guide follows it. Sandalwood sits in the base of 724, Pallas Athene, Cassiopea and Hundred Silent Ways, and musk in 724, Neroli Oranger, Cassiopea and Tubéreuse Astrale, so the soft base is the glue of the family. Vetiver links La Tulipe, Pallas Athene and Hundred Silent Ways, vanilla links Pallas Athene and Hundred Silent Ways, and rose links Eau Rose and Pallas Athene. You can follow the lighter half through musk and the heavier half through vanilla.
Flowers and the weather
Flowers react strongly to temperature. On a warm day, a white floral such as Hundred Silent Ways can feel overwhelming, and on a cold day an airy tulip can almost vanish. If you plan to wear a floral all year, take two samples, one light and one rich, and keep the light one for warm weather and the rich one for the evening. That is a gentler way to learn than guessing with a full bottle.
How to choose
If you think you dislike floral perfume, begin with La Tulipe, which is closer to a green stem than a bouquet. If you like roses, Eau Rose or Pallas Athene. If you like white flowers, step up slowly to Hundred Silent Ways. Wear each on clean skin and notice where the flower sits: at the front, where it fades, or at the heart, where it stays. The routine is in how to test perfume on skin, and rose samples and iris samples cover two floral notes in depth.
The whole family is on the floral perfume samples page, and single notes under jasmine and tuberose. Houses here include Byredo and Diptyque. Each vial is filled and labelled by FragranceGems, not by the houses, as described in how we fill your sample and the FAQ, while sample sets shows how to combine vials.
FAQ
Are floral perfumes only for women?
No. Our records file most of the floral samples in this guide under unisex, and one under women. Flowers are ingredients, and the audience tag mainly reflects how a house presents the perfume.

Tulip, freesia, lily of the valley, neroli and rose water-like notes tend to read light and airy. Tuberose, gardenia and jasmine absolute tend to read heavier and creamier.
Which floral sample is the easiest start?
