The bar in question
The brand sets the scene at the Orphéon, a nearby bar where the three founders danced and talked while the jazz clubs of the neighbourhood stayed open through the night. The perfume is meant as a portrait of that friendship, not a replica of the room.

Diptyque began in Paris in 1961 as a boutique run by three friends at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain, and perfume followed later. Its eaux de toilette and eaux de parfum are portraits of places and plants: a fig grove in Greece, sandalwood burned in Vietnamese temples, a river under a willow. Most are built on a short list of notes and wear lightly, so a 10 ml decant is the honest way to find out which portrait suits your skin before you buy a bottle.
