Philosykos is Diptyque's Eau de Toilette devoted to the whole fig tree rather than only its fruit. Olivia Giacobetti created it in 1996 with just four notes: fig leaves, fig tree sap, fig tree wood and black pepper. Fresh, green and milky, it is a scent that rewards quiet attention, which is why a 10 ml decant is a good way to meet it.

The brand talks of the green freshness of the leaves, the milky flavour of the figs and the density of the white wood. Notice, while wearing the decant, how these three read as separate textures of one tree, not a single fruity fig repeated.

A place, not a fruit
Diptyque sets the perfume on Mount Pelion in Greece, in a summer grove of wild, sun-soaked fig trees. The name means friend of the fig tree. If you wear the decant on a warm day, you can check whether it feels like shade and bark to you, or like something sweeter.

Pepper keeps it dry
Black pepper puts a dry, slightly sharp edge on the milky sap and the green leaves, and stops the fig from turning creamy. The wood adds a quiet frame. With only four notes, every one is easy to follow, and each is worth following over a full day.

As an Eau de Toilette it is lighter than an eau de parfum, so choose a warm, easy day for the test and apply the decant to clean skin. Check back on it through the morning and again later, adding a little more if you want to see how it carries. Try a second day indoors to learn how close it stays.
Who it is for
People who like green, woody scents with a soft, milky side instead of a sweet one. It is unisex and sits naturally in spring and summer, at the office or over a relaxed weekend. If you are expecting a ripe fruit-bowl fig, the decant will show you early that this is a calmer, more natural-feeling scent.

Is a 10 ml decant enough to know if I like it?
Yes, for many wearings. You can try Philosykos on warm days and cooler ones, at work and at home, and see whether the fig tree idea keeps interesting you beyond the first spray.
Is the decant an Eau de Toilette or an Eau de Parfum?

About Diptyque
Diptyque began in Paris in 1961 as a boutique run by three friends at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain, and perfume followed later. Its eaux de toilette and eaux de parfum are portraits of places and plants: a fig grove in Greece, sandalwood burned in Vietnamese temples, a river under a willow. Most are built on a short list of notes and wear lightly, so a 10 ml decant is the honest way to find out which portrait suits your skin before you buy a bottle.
