A green, nutty beginning
Davana, green hazelnut and coriander seed come first. The hazelnut is fresh and milky instead of roasted, the coriander dry and a little citrusy, and the davana adds a herbal fruitiness. It is a green-leaning start and not at all dessert-like.

Cocoa with a dry edge
Cocoa and Clearwood lead the heart, with tea alongside. Cocoa stays bittersweet rather than sugary, Clearwood adds dry wood, and tea softens the sharp corners. The gourmand part is there, but it is kept refined, and it is the stage to watch if you worry about sweetness.

The patchouli trail
Patchouli, vetiver and Cetalox finish the perfume. Patchouli is dark and earthy, vetiver dry and rooty, and Cetalox rounds it all off. The brand calls the result mysterious and bewitching. This is the part that remains on the skin, and the part you buy the bottle for.

Is Patchouli Mania only patchouli?
No. Patchouli leads the base, but it shares the perfume with davana, green hazelnut, coriander seed, cocoa, Clearwood, tea, vetiver and Cetalox. Patchouli is the centre of the idea, not the only note.
Will the cocoa make it sweet?
In the brand's description the cocoa is part of a warm gourmand heart, but the perfume reads dark and dry. The sample will show how sweet that feels on you.

Essential Parfums was started in Paris in 2018 by Géraldine Archambault after thirty years in the industry, with one rule: a different perfumer for every eau de parfum, working freely and signing the bottle. The brand states 16 to 18% concentration and 82 to 93% ingredients of natural origin, alcohol from beetroot and no added colour. The results are clear and uncluttered, which is why a sample tells you quickly whether a bottle belongs on your shelf.
