A bright start, quickly darkened
Bergamot gives the opening a clean citrus note, and the spices sit beside it with some warmth. Because the heart that follows is dark, the first minutes are the only stretch where brightness is part of the picture, so smell your arm closely then.

Oud and leather in the heart
Oud and leather are the two heart notes, a dark one and a smooth one. Oud can come across as resinous, woody or slightly sharp depending on the skin, and leather adds a supple, faintly smoky layer. This part decides whether Black Elixir suits you, and a sample lets you meet it without a 200 ml commitment.

Amber, vanilla and patchouli
The base turns warm with amber and vanilla, and patchouli keeps it earthy so the sweetness does not take over. FragranceGems calls the finish lush, which fits a perfume tagged for autumn and winter, though summer is listed too, so test it in different weather.
