Pepper, bergamot and ginger
The opening combines black pepper, bergamot and ginger. Pepper gives an immediate dry sharpness, ginger adds a warm, zesty bite and bergamot keeps things bright. Spray once and note how hot or cool the start feels on your skin, since this contrast with the base is a large part of the character.

Cardamom and petitgrain
The heart is cardamom with petitgrain oil. Cardamom is spicy and slightly sweet, and petitgrain, taken from the bitter orange tree, adds a green, woody freshness. The pair makes the scent more aromatic and less sharp, so wait for this stage before you decide.

Benzoin, labdanum, patchouli and tonka
The base lists benzoin, labdanum, patchouli and tonka bean. Benzoin and labdanum add a warm, balsamic resin, patchouli brings earth, and tonka contributes a soft, vanilla-like sweetness. Check your wrist in the evening and see whether the resin feels cosy or heavy.

What does the Onyx Silver vial contain?
Perfume from the original bottle, moved by FragranceGems into a 10 ml glass spray vial that carries our label. It is not an official brand sample, and Khadlaj has no role in the filling.
What is petitgrain oil?
It is an oil taken from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree, listed in the heart of Onyx Silver. It smells green and woody-fresh and sits comfortably beside cardamom.
Is it a spicy perfume?
Black pepper, ginger and cardamom are all in the record, so spice is clearly part of it, balanced by bergamot and a soft tonka base. The sample shows how strong the spice feels on you.

Khadlaj Perfumes was founded in 1997 and is based in Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates, where it manufactures its own perfumes. The house describes its range as a mix of rich oud compositions, floral pieces and contemporary fresh perfumes, sorted into lines such as Karus, Shiyaaka and Onyx. Among the Khadlaj Eau de Parfum that FragranceGems carries as samples are one from each of those three lines plus two from Island.
