The first round
Espresso martini, cinnamon and black cherry open the perfume. The martini note is a bittersweet impression of coffee and liqueur, cinnamon adds dry warmth, black cherry a dark and juicy accent. Watch how boozy this start feels to you before the sweetness settles.

Rum, nuts, coffee
Saffron, coffee, crushed nuts, rum and a Manhattan cocktail note keep the bar going in the heart. Roasted and warm, this is where the drink theme is strongest. The vanilla has not arrived yet, so it is a good moment to ask whether the cocktail idea charms you.

Forbidden vanilla
The vanilla comes last, which the brand calls forbidden and milky. It rests on guaiac wood, leather, sandalwood and a note named hot skin, with silky woods smoothing the finish. Sweetness stays warm and a little smoky here, and the sample shows how much.

About Sarah Baker
Sarah Baker Perfumes is run from a studio in East London by two artists, Sarah Baker and Andy Hsu, and it works the way an art project would: every perfume is a collaboration with a different independent perfumer, credited on the bottle, and each is cast as a character in an ongoing fantasy world with its own mini screenplay. Characters this vivid, a vengeful peach, a mermaid's tidepool, a gilded oud, are better met in person. A 10 ml decant is the introduction.
