BORNTOSTANDOUT Purple Stain takes its image from wine stains spreading across an old leather journal. The perfumer Jordi Fernández pairs saffron and cinnamon with caramel and vanilla, then ends on oud, patchouli and cypriol. That mix of sweet, spicy and smoky is exactly the sort of thing to wear for a few days in 10 ml before you take on a 50 ml extrait.

Spice before sweetness
The top is warm and crowded. Saffron, cinnamon bark, nutmeg and ginger extract give dry, aromatic heat, while mandarin and bergamot hold bright citrus against it. Judge how you react to those first minutes: some people love the heat, others find it sharp.

A dark kind of sweet
In the heart, caramel and vanilla bring richness, Peru balsam adds resinous warmth and orange blossom keeps a thread of floral light. The sweetness is deep rather than sugary. This is the part that decides whether the perfume feels cosy or heavy on you.

Oud, patchouli, cypriol
Oud, patchouli and cypriol give the base its smoky, earthy weight. Akigalawood adds a dry, spiced wood, cistus concrete a dark resin, and Ambrofix keeps the ending smooth. Because it is an extrait, it stays dense and close, so the drydown deserves a proper look.

Try one or two sprays on the chest or neck on a cool evening, and let the spice and citrus open before judging the sweet heart. The brand puts this line at 55-62 percent fragrance concentration, so it is strong: wear the sample on a quiet day first rather than in a crowded room.
Who it is for
Classed as unisex, Purple Stain suits people who like spiced, resinous and smoky scents with a balsamic sweetness at the centre and are comfortable with oud in the base. If you prefer fresh, light or purely floral perfumes, it will probably feel too dark, and the decant will tell you so cheaply.

Is there wine in the pyramid?
No. Wine is the brand's image for the scent. The notes are saffron and spices at the top, caramel, vanilla and Peru balsam in the heart, and oud, patchouli and cypriol in the base.
What does the sample contain?
A 10 ml decant in a glass spray vial, filled by FragranceGems from the original bottle and labelled by us. It is not an official brand sample, and BORNTOSTANDOUT is not involved.
How smoky is it really?
The brand describes the drydown as smoky oud with patchouli and cypriol, but caramel, vanilla and orange blossom in the heart keep a sweet layer beside it. Wearing it for a few days shows which side wins on you.
When is it best to wear?
It fits autumn and winter evenings and occasions that call for a rich, dark scent. It is a poor match for hot days, which is another reason to test it before committing to a full bottle.

BORNTOSTANDOUT is a Seoul house launched in April 2022 under the motto 'We rebel against the standards'. The names are deliberately provocative, Dirty Rice, Fig Porn, Drunk Lovers, but the formulas are serious: each is composed by a credited outside perfumer and the Eau de Parfum line is dosed at 30 to 40% fragrance concentration. Perfumes this dense and this gourmand deserve a skin test before a full bottle, which is what our 10 ml decants are for.
